Advancing pragmatic policy solutions to ensure prosperity and opportunity for future generations
Policy Institute Australia has been formed to examine ways to unlock the nation’s economic potential and position itself for enduring prosperity in the 21st century. We recognise that Australians value our caring society and that capitalism, free enterprise and a well-functioning market economy are the foundations needed to support the aspirations of our community. Policy Institute Australia is non-partisan, evidence-led and independent, established with generous support from the John and Myriam Wylie Foundation. We are governed by a national board chaired by John Wylie AC, with directors from across Australia: Glyn Davis AC, Peter Harris AO, Paul Kelly, Jenn Morris OAM, and Kate Torney OAM.

For all Australians
How do you face the future with confidence when housing, the cost of living and job uncertainty make everything feel out of reach?
We offer big policy ideas that are real and relatable, connecting reforms to everyday issues such as the cost of living, job opportunities and security for our long term prosperity. Our goal is simple: to show how bold reforms couched in principles of market-based solutions, smart incentives, effective government and a dynamic private sector can build a future where all Australians can thrive.
WITH COURAGE AND CONVICTION
We are philanthropically funded, non-partisan, evidence-led and independent, uninfluenced by political cycles, institutional ties, or funding from governments or politically parties. That independence empowers us to challenge, to examine and to advocate for first-best solutions.
Led by accomplished changemakers from across Australia, Policy Institute Australia combines rigour, pragmatism, and imagination to put bold, economically grounded reforms on the table. Our Board represents respected voices from policy, business, and media, united by a commitment to strengthening Australia’s future.

Who do we serve?
Linking policy and possibility for all Australians
We serve policymakers, business leaders, and the community, connecting policy and possibility to create a more prosperous future for all Australians.
For policymakers, advisors and the public service
How do you pursue meaningful reform when every idea must withstand political cycles, public opinion, and departmental scrutiny?
We offer credible, change-making policy solutions that address issues like housing reform, social policy, and wage growth vs inflation. Our work empowers policymakers to resolve the nation’s most complex challenges, leading reforms that stand the test of time and defining the legacy of those who champion them.
For business leaders
How do you plan and invest when policy settings are complex, uncertain, or unfit for a competitive economy?
We believe in the power of competitive markets to drive prosperity. Our commercially informed, market-oriented reforms tackle barriers such as economic inequality in Australia, providing clarity and competitiveness so all businesses can thrive in a future-facing economy.
For all Australians
How do you secure a fair future when housing, jobs, and the cost of living feel out of reach?
We make big policy ideas real and relatable, connecting reforms to everyday issues such as housing affordability policy, trust in government, and Australian youth unemployment. Our goal is simple: to show how bold reforms can build a future where all Australians can thrive, not just survive.
